About World Hearing Day
Every March 3 is the “International Ears Day”. In March 2013, the World Health Organization designated “China Ears Day” as “International Ears Day”.
On March 3, 2000, the first Hearing Day publicity and education activities were carried out simultaneously across the country. The theme of the 2013 Love Hearing Day is “Healthy Hearing, Happy Life-Concern for the Hearing Health of the Elderly”.
The specific date of International Ears Day is determined because the number 3 is similar to the shape of ears, so 3.3 symbolizes two ears. In 2007, China Rehabilitation Research Center for Deaf Children (CRRCDC), China Disabled General Assistant for Infectious Diseases, Dr. Catherine Le Gales-Camus, and senior leaders in China.
In addition to reaching the “Beijing Declaration” at this conference: the creation of the “International Ear-Hearing Day” (preparation for the promotion of global hearing care actions and minimizing the occurrence of hearing loss). Every year, the International Hearing Day will set a theme and carry out a large-scale, multi-sectoral publicity activity around it, aiming to increase the importance of hearing protection and the awareness of hearing loss prevention.
Later, International Hearing Day was promoted by more and more organizations such as: Sound Hearing 2030, CBM, Hearing Conservation Council and the country. Under the guidance of the World Health Organization, more and more member states have launched the theme of Hearing Day. activity.
According to a 2013 report by the World Health Organization, there are 360 million hearing-disabled people in the world, accounting for 5.3% of the global population. 50% of hearing disabilities can be prevented and avoided through primary ear care. Primary ear care is the most basic, economical and effective means and way to prevent hearing disabilities.

In 1998, 10 departments, including the China Disabled Persons’ Federation and the former Ministry of Health, agreed that March 3 of each year was National Hearing Day. On March 3, 2000, the first Hearing Day publicity and education activities were carried out simultaneously across the country.
In 2007, the first International Conference on Hearing Impairment Prevention and Rehabilitation hosted by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, the former Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization was held in Beijing. The conference issued the “Beijing Declaration” and issued an initiative to establish an International Day of Ear. The head of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation stated that the establishment of the International Day is China’s important contribution to the prevention and rehabilitation of hearing disabilities in the world.
According to the latest estimates released by the World Health Organization, more than 360 million people worldwide have hearing disabilities, and China has 20.54 million hearing disabilities.
