Completely-in-canal (CIC)
Before invisible-in-canal devices were introduced, CIC hearing aids were the smallest custom solutions available. Each CIC hearing aid is designed to fit almost entirely inside the ear canal, making hearing aids CIC discreet with only the faceplate and battery drawer visible. An extraction cord is typically added to help with insertion and removal of the hearing aid CIC.

Benefits

• Despite their small size, CIC hearing aids deliver more power than expected and suit mild to severe/profound losses.
• The microphone location inside the canal supports natural acoustics and helps with telephone use and sound localization.
• Many brands now provide CIC hearing aids with Bluetooth and rechargeable cic hearing aids, allowing users to choose the cic hearing aids or best rechargeable cic hearing aids with wireless features, though this may slightly increase size.

Limitations

• A single omni-directional microphone makes them less effective in background noise.
• Ear anatomy must be adequate to house internal components.
• Not suitable for users with limited vision or dexterity.
• They require more maintenance and can be affected by wax near the microphone port.
• Their smaller surface area increases the likelihood of feedback or loosening during talking or chewing.
• As with all custom devices, CIC hearing aids may need occasional re-shelling due to ear canal changes, which requires new impressions and is not covered under warranty.
